Help for Job Seekers from Lake 1 Stop


Jump Start Your Job Search (initial workshop that all employment seekers must attend at Lake 1 Stop if they intend to take further workshops)  where you will find out what is available at Lake 1 Stop and what other workshops there are and how to sign up. Other available workshops are:

Wave of Change - (1 class, 3 hours) where they talk about the job loss itself.

Resume Development - (2 days, 1 3 hour class per day) Part one is classroom work on how to create a resume; Part two is how to type one up which is not required for those with computer knowledge of resume creation. (Individual resume critique must be done in a one on one session by appointment if they qualify). All resumes created are in word and saved on jump drives in day 2.

Applications & Job Search Letters - (1 class, 3 hours) covers how to fill out applications, what information is pertinent like social security numbers, dates of birth, and how to discuss tricky situations like gaps in employment and felonies on your record, and also creation of cover, thank you and follow up letters.

Interview Techniques - (2 days, 3 hours per day, both days mandatory) Covers how to present yourself in an interview including outlining your important skills and addressing things on your application or resume like felonies.

Uncovering the Hidden Job Market - (3 hours) since 70-90% of jobs aren't posted this covers how to locate them and how to find who to contact about them.

Internet Skills for Job Search - (3 hours) This is for those who don't know how to email, attach files, upload files, or copy and paste.

Occupational and vocational training is available on an approval basis, as is one-on-one job search assistance. Job seekers must contact the office to see if they qualify.

A computer lab is available and is easy to locate.  It has 39 terminals and multiple laser printers, two magnifying screens for those who have trouble reading, a fax machine, resume paper, a TTY phone for the deaf or hard of hearing, two direct lines to unemployment services, and a regular phone. Everything is free and no one has to qualify. A lounge with fridge is included for them to eat snacks and meals in since no food or beverage is allowed in the lab. Children are also prohibited. It is open from 8:00am-4:30pm Monday through Friday.
