Q:
Can Children Use the Internet Computers?

A:

1.      Computers in the children’s area are for patrons ages 12 and under only.  Children under age 8 must have an adult with them at the computer at all times.  The child must be the person using the computer.

2.      Use of the computer will be on a first come first serve basis.  There is a 30 minute time limit for which the user will be given a time slot at the children’s desk.  When the time has expired, users must make the station available to the next waiting patron.   Users may have a second 30 minute turn if no one is waiting, but they must re-sign in for this second turn.  Users are limited to 2 turns per day.

3.      Inappropriate behavior (raised voices, bad language, disrupting others, etc.) or misuse of the computer may result in the loss of computer or library privileges.  The misbehaving child will be given one warning only.  Parents may be contacted if necessary.

4.       Use caution when sending personal information such as name, address, age, school name, etc. over the Internet.

5.      No more than 2 patrons may use one station at the same time.

6.      The cost of printing from the Library computers at the present time is 10 cents/page.  All pages printed are to be paid for, even if printed by mistake.

7.      Patrons may bring data disks or USB flash drives, and use them on the computer.  Patrons may use disks which are purchased outside the Library.  Disks may be purchased from the circulation desk for one dollar.  The Library is not responsible for any virus which might be transmitted to patrons’ home computers.

8.      Under no circumstances may patrons use their personal software on library computers.

9.      Downloading from the Internet is not permitted.

10.  Patrons may not use their own computers on the Library’s T1 connection.  However, there is a wireless connection service available.

11.  Library staff will be glad to assist patrons in using the Internet.  Because of the many applications available over the Internet, library staff may not always be familiar with specific programs patrons wish to use.  In these cases, the patron is responsible for learning how to use the program.  The library cannot provide technical instruction.

12.  If users experience any problems with the computer or programs, they should notify the library staff immediately.

13.  Staff members reserve the right to prohibit material that in their judgment is inappropriate for viewing in this public area or is illegal pursuant to the Ohio Revised Code 2907.01.
