Barnyard Dance by

The Cow In the Barn
(sung to Wheels on
the Bus)
In the
Barnyard
I took a walk
(sung to “Down by the Station”)
(tap hands on knees)
Out in the
barnyard early in the morning
I took a walk to town one day
(stretch as if waking up)
I met a cow along the way
See the
little yellow chicks standing in a row
What do you think that cow did say?
(stand up fingers)
Moo Moo Moo
See the busy
farmer giving them their breakfast
*make up your own verses!
(pretend to scatter seed)
(cat-meow, duck-quack)
Peep, peep,
peep, peep, off they go!
(run fingers away)
The Rooster
Out in the
barnyard early in the morning
The rooster crows each morning
(stretch as if waking up)
To say the day is new
You can hear
the piglets squealing up a storm
We all know just what he’ll say
(cup ear with hand)
It’s “cock a doodle doo!” (flap arms and
crow)
Here comes
the mama pig, she will feed her babies
(sway back and forth like large pig walking)
This little cow (count on fingers – start with
pinky)
Oink, oink,
oink, oink, on the farm!
This little cow eats grass
(spread hands)
This little cow eats hay
This little cow looks over the fence
Ten
Galloping Horses
(bounce child on your knees)
This little cow runs away
Ten galloping
horses came through the town
But this BIG cow does nothing at all
Five were
white and five were brown
(touch thumb)
They galloped
up and galloped down
But lie in the fields all day!
Ten galloping
horses came through town
(lay thumb across palm)
Milk, Milk, Milk your
cow
(sing to “Row Row Row Your Boat”)
Milk, Milk, Milk your
cow while sitting on the stool.
Pulling, squirting, pulling, squirting ‘till the bucket’s full
Barnyard Dance
Act out this poem
The barnyard
dance is about to begin,
So hitch up
your pants and jump right in!
Pick the
apples! Husk the corn!
Crow with the
rooster in the early morn!
Bow to your
partner! Wave hello!
Clap your
hands and tap your toe!
Feed the
chickens! Milk the cow!
Hoe the weeds
and push the plow!
The barnyard
dance has come to an end,
So kick up
your heels and start again!
Take Me Out To The
Barnyard
(Tune: Take Me Out To
The Ball Game)
Take me out to the
barnyard
Take me out there right
now
Show me the cows, pigs,
and horses too,
I hear an oink and a
neigh and a moo.
There are chickens
laying their eggs,
If they don't lay it's
a shame.
For it's one, two,
three, eggs today,
Oh, I'm glad I came.
Here We
Go Round The Big Red Barn
(act out verses to the tune of "Here
We Go Round the Mulberry Bush")
Here we go
round the big red barn, the big red barn, the big red barn
Here we go
round the big red barn so early in the morning.
This is the
way we milk the cows, milk the cows, milk the cows
This is the
way we milk the cows so early in the morning.
This is the
way we feed the chickens, feed the chickens, feed the chickens
This is the
way we feed the chickens so early in the morning.
(Continue with other farm chores such
as chop wood,
mow hay, slop pigs, plant corn,
etc.)
The
Cows On The Farm
(Sung to The Wheels On The Bus)
The cows on
the farm go moo, moo, moo
Moo, moo, moo
Moo, moo, moo
The cows on
the farm go moo, moo, moo
All night
long!
- Repeat
with…
The sheep on
the farm go bah bah bah
The pigs on
the farm go Oink oink oink
For additional verses, ask your child
to name their favorite farm animal
and what sound it makes.
- End with
this verse:
The farmer on
the farm yells "Go to sleep!"
"Go to
sleep!" "Go to sleep!"
The farmer on
the farm yells "Go to sleep!"
So I can get
my rest (snore!)

department
