(curve arms to make umbrella)                                        (swing arms out to sides)

                                                                                    Out came the sun

Rain is falling down                                                                 (arms circle overhead)

If all the raindrops

If all the raindrops were lemon drops and gumdrops – oh what a rain that would be!

I’d stand outside with my mouth open wide – ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah

If all the raindrops were lemon drops and gumdrops – oh what a rain that would be!

The rain goes drip drop                                               I Hear Thunder   (sing to “Frere Jacques”)

(tap knees in rhythm)                              I hear thunder, I hear thunder

The rain goes drip drop                                       How ‘bout you?  How ‘bout you?

The rain goes drip drop                                       Pitter patter raindrops, pitter patter raindrops

The rain goes drip drop                                       I’m wet through!  So are you!

Drip drop plop!   (one loud clap!)                          I see blue skies,  I see blue skies

Way up high, way up high

Rain Rain                                                         Hurry up sunshine, hurry up sunshine

Rain rain go to Spain                                          I’ll soon dry,  I’ll soon dry!

( push away with hands)

Rain rain falling down  (flutter fingers down)

The Storm                                                                    Falling on the ground

The storm cam up very quick                                          Pitter patter pitter patter

It couldn’t have been quicker                                           What a lovely sound!

I should have brought along my hat

            (hands on head)

I should have brought my slicker                      Poem to Mud

(pretend to put on coat)                    Poem to mud -

My hair is wet, my feet are wet                       Poem to ooze -

(point to head and feet)                    Patted in pies, or coating the shoes,

I couldn’t be much wetter                              Poem to slooze -

I fell into a river once                                   Poem to crud -

(pretend to dive)                              Fed by a leak, or spread by a flood

But this is even wetter!                               Wherever, whenever, why ever it goes,

(shake head “Yes”)                          Stirred by your finger, or strained by your toes,

                                                                There’s nothing sloopier, slippier, floppier

                                                                 There’s nothing slickier, stickier, thickier

There’s nothing quickier to make grown-ups sickier

                                                                 Trulier, coolier

                                                               Than wonderful mud

                                                                                                        -------Zilpha Keatley Snyder
