girl hugging therapy dogPaws For Reading

Once a month on Saturdays

Call 259-3300 or stop in the library to register

 March 6             April 17

School-age children read aloud to trained therapy dogs.   The dogs’ handlers sit nearby to help ease the interaction.  Children are more willing to read to dogs than to their classmates, in part because children who stumble over new words know their furry friends won't make fun of them. As a result, children's reading skills improve and their self-esteem grows.

Open to any school-age child

Books may be brought from home or chosen from the library shelves

Each child will receive a certificate and a free book to take home.

Register for one 15 minute session

Drop-ins are welcome if time slots are available

This program is made possible by the Dollar General Corporation's Youth Literacy Grant
